New medical marijuana zoning moves forward in Sechelt

Sechelt Council is set for another look at zoning regulations for medical marijuana producers.

The Planning Committee is recommending a bylaw restricting medical marijuana facilities to Agricultural Land Reserve properties larger than 2 hectares.

The idea is to use it as the starting point, and look at other areas as part of a wider public consultation.

Councillor Noel Muller says he’d prefer going into those consultations with a blank slate.

Councillor Alice Lutes, though, argues they need to show the community what they’re comfortable with.  She’d like to see a 5 hectare limit.

There is already a medical marijuana facility under construction in Sechelt.

Medma is still awaiting Health Canada approval to grow at its industrial lot in Porpoise Bay.  If the changes go through it won’t impact that company.
