RCMP are investigating a deadly crash on the Inland Island Highway that claimed the life of a Qualicum Beach man.
It happened south of Courtenay near the Trent River Bridge around 9:00am on Monday, January 19. Constable Chris Mousseau with North Vancouver Island Traffic Services says a northbound vehicle lost control on black ice and slammed into a southbound semi-trailer, leaving debris scattered across the highway.
Mousseau says the victim’s name has not been released. He says the tragic accident is an important reminder that drivers need to watch out for black ice and drive according to the conditions.
The Inland Island Hwy was shut down in both directions for several hours. It has now been reopened.
