Wellington Secondary under lockdown as RCMP investigate threat

Wellington Secondary School remains locked down following a bomb threat. Nanaimo RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien says they’re still searching the area.

O’Brien says students are being asked to stay home until the search has been completed and the building has been deemed safe. As of 11:30am, they were still searching the building. He says they’re providing regular updates through their twitter account.

SD 68 issued the following statement:

“This morning Wellington Secondary School received a phone call that contained a threat to the school. RCMP have been called. School is closed and will remain in lockdown until further notice. For safety reasons any students that were in the school before the phone call have been evacuated to a safe zone outside of the school and have been instructed to return home at this time. We ask that all students stay home until such time as the RCMP have determined that it is safe to return.”
