With funding model changing SCTA has room tax application in 2015 plan

Nanaimo recently had theirs approved by the province, but Sunshine Coast Tourism is still waiting to bring in a room tax to help pay for its marketing efforts.

Speaking to Gibsons Council Tuesday, Tourism Association president Celia Robben said there’s a bit of time pressure now, with Destination BC due to cut off funding to the Vancouver Coast and Mountains region on March 31st.

Robben says the Association is working with the accommodation sector to get the necessary support, before going to local governments and making a fresh application to the province.

The SCTA is looking for $43-thousand in funding from local governments this year.
